Before you install

Learn one shortcut first

GhostApp has no taskbar icon, no Dock icon and no tray icon. Launching it looks like nothing happened, and there is nothing to click. To show or hide the app, use the following shortcut:

About five minutes: install it, grant the permissions it needs, then sign in and add one API key.

Read this before you install

The installer and the installed app are named Kalimaa, not GhostApp — that is the name you will see in your Applications folder, your Start menu and your antivirus. And once GhostApp is running there is no taskbar icon, no tray icon and no Dock icon. Launching it looks like nothing happened. Press Ctrl + Shift + Space (Mac: Option + Space) to show the window.

macOS Installation

    Install it

    Open the DMG and drag Kalimaa to your Applications folder. Eject the disk image and launch it from Applications — not from the DMG.

    Just double-click it

    The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so a normal double-click works. You do not need to right-click → Open.

    Grant Accessibility (see below)

    Nothing works without this — not even the shortcut that shows the window.

Grant permissions

Three permissions, and they do different jobs. GhostApp deliberately never pops a permission dialog at you — a system prompt appearing mid-meeting is exactly what it is built to avoid — so grant them here yourself. In every case: open the pane, find Kalimaa in the list and switch it on. If it is not listed, click + and pick it from Applications.

Accessibility

System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility

Without it, no keyboard shortcut works at all — including Option + Space, the only way to show the window. GhostApp switches every shortcut off rather than falling back to a method a browser could detect, so a half-granted setup fails loudly instead of leaking.

No relaunch needed — GhostApp notices the grant within a couple of seconds.

System Audio Recording

For Live

System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, the system-audio entry.

Lets the Live tab hear your meeting. Without it Live records but the transcript stays empty. macOS asks for this the first time you start a recording.

Only needed for the ⌘ ⇧ 0 and ⌘ ⇧ 1 screenshot shortcuts. Without it those come out black.

GhostApp never asks for your Microphone, and never records your voice — Live listens to your system audio, which is the other people in the call. If a guide tells you to enable Microphone or Input Monitoring, it is out of date. You also should not need to re-grant anything after an update.

Windows Installation

Windows 11, or Windows 10 build 19041+

On Windows 10?

Invisibility to screen capture needs Windows 10 version 2004 (build 19041) or newer. The installer runs on older builds, but on those the window can appear in a screen share — which defeats the point. Windows 11 needs no special handling. Check yours withwinver.

    Run the Installer

    Double-click the downloaded .exe file. No administrator rights are required — it installs to your own user folder, so there is no UAC prompt.

    • Click Next through the setup wizard, then Install and Finish.
    • You get a Kalimaa shortcut in your Start menu, and on your desktop if you ticked that box. That is what you launch it with.
    • Once it is running there is no tray icon and no taskbar button — that is the whole point. Press Ctrl + Shift + Space to show the window.
    If SmartScreen warns you

    The installer is code-signed through Azure Trusted Signing under the identity A8 Labs LLC, so Windows shows a real publisher name rather than "Unknown publisher". Reputation still has to build up for each new release, so you may briefly see "Windows protected your PC" on a fresh build — click More info → Run anyway.

  2. If the App is Blocked or Disappears

    GhostApp by TsarChat.com uses low-level system hooks to stay invisible on screen shares. This causes false positives with antivirus software — the app may be quarantined or silently removed right after install. Follow these steps to recover it.

    Step A — Restore from Quarantine (Windows Defender)

    • Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection.
    • Click Protection history.
    • Find the blocked GhostApp by TsarChat.com entry → click Actions → Restore.
    • Then continue to Step B to add an exclusion so it isn't blocked again.
    Using a different antivirus? First add the exclusion in Step B below, then re-run the .exe installer — your AV will no longer interfere.

  3. Step B — Add Antivirus Exclusion

    Add the install folder as an exclusion so your AV never quarantines GhostApp by TsarChat.com again. The folder to exclude is:
    C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\Programs\Kalimaa

    Windows Defender (default on Windows 11)

    • Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection.
    • Click Manage settings under "Virus & threat protection settings".
    • Scroll to Exclusions → click Add or remove exclusions. Confirm the UAC prompt.
    • Click + Add an exclusion → Folder → navigate to and select the GhostApp by TsarChat.com folder. Applied automatically.

    Norton 360 / Norton Antivirus Plus

    • Open Norton → click Security in the left pane → click Open in the Scans tile.
    • Click the Exclusions tab → click Add.
    • Click the browse icon, navigate to the GhostApp by TsarChat.com folder, and click OK.
    • Click Add to confirm, then Apply → OK.

    McAfee Total Protection

    • Open McAfee → click PC Security.
    • Click Real-Time Scanning → Excluded Files.
    • Click Add file, browse to the GhostApp by TsarChat.com folder, and click Open. Applied automatically.

    Avast / AVG Antivirus

    • Open Avast or AVG → click the Menu (☰) icon → Settings.
    • Go to General → Exceptions → click Add exception.
    • Click I understand risks → select the File/Folder tab → browse to the GhostApp by TsarChat.com folder.
    • Click OK then Add to save.

    Bitdefender Total Security / Antivirus Plus

    • Open Bitdefender → click Protection in the sidebar → click Open under Antivirus.
    • Go to the Settings tab → click Manage Exceptions.
    • Click + Add an Exception → browse to or type the GhostApp by TsarChat.com folder path.
    • Ensure Antivirus is toggled on, then click Save.

    Malwarebytes

    • Open Malwarebytes → click the Settings gear icon.
    • Click the Exclusions tab → click Add Exclusion.
    • Select Files and Folders → browse to the GhostApp by TsarChat.com folder → click OK. Applied automatically.

Sign in

GhostApp starts hidden while it checks your account, then shows the sign-in screen. Use your TsarChat email and password. If your email is not verified, use Resend verification email on that screen first.

Add one API key

GhostApp uses your own AI accounts. Open Settings (Ctrl + Shift + 9 / ⌘ ⇧ 9) → API Keys and paste a key from Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Groq or xAI. Press Test to confirm it works — saving does not check it. Live transcription also needs a Deepgram key.

Practise the hotkey

Press Ctrl + Shift + Space (Mac: Option + Space) twice — once to hide, once to bring it back. Do this before your first real meeting, not during it. There is no icon to click if you forget.
